The NCAA men’s basketball tournament is moving to Boston this weekend and tourism experts are expecting the basketball fans to bring a $22 million boost in economic spending. Syracuse will play Wisconsin and Ohio State will play Cincinnati on Thursday with the winners of those games playing again on Saturday. All of the games will be played in the iconic TD Garden.

Patrick Moscaritolo, president of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau explains “We ended up with some really good teams. We have a New York team and we have a team like Ohio State that travels really well. We’ll be seeing lots of fans from those schools.”

WonderCon 2012 Moves to Anaheim Convention Center This Weekend

This year WonderCon is moving to the Anaheim Convention Center. The annual convention usually held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco is making a one year move Anaheim, where fans can get their fill of comics, film and anime at the Anaheim Convention Center, March 16-18.

WonderCon is a highly anticipated convention that regularly draws crowds of over 50,000 as fans take advantage of the opportunity to see celebrities make guest appearances and participate in different panels. WonderCon is expecting many fans to attend this year to see appearances by “The Amazing Spider-Man” actress Emma Stone, “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders and “True Blood” actor Alexander Skarsgård, who stars in the upcoming “Battleship” movie. This year, comic book fans will also be able to meet and greet DC’s co-publisher and “Justice League” artist Jim Lee, “Angel & Faith” artist Rebekah Isaacs, “30 Days of Night” writer Steve Niles, “Tomb of Dracula” writer Marv Wolfman and “Daredevil” writer Mark Waid.

This year WonderCon is also proud to offer a children’s film festival, gaming, an autograph area, a vast merchant floor and a masquerade event. WonderCon began in Oakland 26 years ago and has gained popularity throughout the years. Las Vegas reports increase in tourists and convention attendance

The city of Las Vegas and Las Vegas hotels observed a 2.5 percent rise in guests this past December compared with December of 2010. These findings are providing evidence that the troubled economy in Nevada and Las Vegas has begun to take a turn for the best.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority recently documented that nearly 3 million people visited Las Vegas in December of 2011.

The visitor count in Las Vagas increased by 4.3 percent in 2011 compared with the total visitors in 2010. Conference and convention attendance also increased by 9 percent to nearly 4.9 million another positive sign for hotels and convention centers in Las Vegas.

The increased numbers of visitosr also helped create a 5 percent increase in gambling revenue in 2011 compared to 2010.

The rising tourist numbers point to potentially exciting news for the state of Nevada, which heavily relies upon hotel tourism and convention attendance. Nevada has suffered through the highest unemployment rates in the United States over the past year.
